I am looking to set up the emudeck and emulation station set up on it and i believe that will be using retro arch for everything up until ps2. I am new to emulation and preparing for my steam deck set up so this is very helpful for allowing me to play my back log and experience these games on the go.
Hello, first of all i would like to say thank you very much for this post. If a correction or an addition is necessary, let me know and I will take care of it.ģ51ELEC : Updated to 20211122 Pineapple Forest The checksum of each file has been checked.Įach pack is ready to use and updated on GitHub. Ultimately for playing retro games emulation is the only long term solution and the sooner people, and the industry, gets used to that the better.I took the time and the care to collect all the BIOSes requested by different emulation platforms by following their respective documentation. BC PS3 even more so because they all seem to YLOD and then you're looking at some real frankenstein specialized repairs to get stuff working again.
Very difficult to recommend physical PS2 nowadays because of shelf life, read speeds for backups on certain models/methods, and associated costs of CRT or hardware to make output look good. Any of these approaches is violating Sony TOS but it is what it is. Failing this you can buy a cheaper used ps2 that doesn't play games or with a broken drive and then grab the bios from that with freemcboot and then do what you will. Grab a dvd drive and dump whatever game you want to play. Set up PCSX2 and point it to said bios files. You can extract PS2 (and PS1 iirc) bios files from the PS3 firmware update that Sony makes available to everyone. And if you want to keep it 100% legit you will need an actual console soft-modded in order to dump the BIOS for use in the emulator as others have said.įwiw you don't need to do any piracy to emulate PS2 games iirc. So, again, you'll want to do some research on the compatibility of games you're interested in playing to determine if they will work the way you want them to on PCSX2. For example, I recently wanted to move from playing Yakuza 1 Restored on my PS3 over to my PC but quickly found out that this game still has significant visual issues in PCSX2 if you run at anything other than native resolution so at that point I may as well just continue playing on the PS3. PCSX2 is a great option these days but compatibility is not perfect and some games are still going to give you issues. Compatibility has been pretty solid for me on a PS3 Slim CECH-2001B I restored. The software emulation models of course have lower compatibility but you can always look at a compatibility list first to see if the titles you want to play will work. Any jailbroken PS3 or PS3 Slim (not Super Slim but those suck anyway) can play PS2 games ripped to ISO format from your collection whether it's a hardware or software BC model (you cannot play from the disc itself on a PS3 Slim).
